PROPER NOUN / 2008
A long-term project "Proper Noun" was started in 2006. The aim of the project was to reveal the new generation of Russian photography, search of and assistance to the young, unknown photographers in acquiring their own name in the professional world art-sphere.
In the project each author is supported by an eminent curator – photographer, critic, designer, whose authority provides the works of the young author with a “patent of quality”, so they can have a chance to declare their projects.
During 2007 FotoDepartament organized 14 exhibitions of young authors. In January 2008 the series of all the participants were combined to be presented in the final exhibition “Young Russian Photography”, which took place in the Central Exhibition hall “Manezh” as a part of annual exhibition ‘’The Whole Saint-Petersburg”. Judging by the spectators’ responses, “Young Russian Photography” appeared to be the exhibition’s most interesting project which provoked a lot of discussions. In 2008 the second season of the project “Proper Noun” continues.
