July 8 – September 1, 2007
On July 8 the new grand exhibition hall at Nevsky prospect, 20 (V. V. Mayakovsky Library Information Center) has inaugurated the exhibition “F.” – the final exhibition of the summer international photography seminar “Photography in a Magazine”, held from June 30 through July 8, 2007. “F.” - will be the title of the magazine on contemporary photography, the pages and spreads of which are presented in the exhibit bearing the same name.
The magazine mockup is made of the best works by the participants of the seminar photo groups, those who took classes of Sergey Maksimishin (St.Petersburg), Anya Chibisova (Moscow), Julia Varga (Paris), Marietta Tsenova (London). The texts for the magazine have been written by young photo journalists, and the material for the issue, selected by young photo editors, thereby communicating in their new generation language to the reading audience and the exhibit viewers. The exhibit presents the selected pages of the future magazine, it is a mockup created in 9 days; however, it already does give one a clear representation of the magazine direction.
The first issue, conceptualized ad created in the process of the summer photography seminar “Photography in a Magazine”, will be printed at the end of August`07. The Editor-in-Chief is the art critic - Mikhail Sidlin, Art Director - digital artist Alexander Antipin, Photo Editor - Irina Meglinskaya (Photography of Afisha Publishing House), the idea and publisher of “F.” magazine, the team of FotoDepartament Information Center/Bureau.
FotoDepartament is but a year-old, and its founders now well what it’s like to work from ground zero, be young and ambitious, grow and become professional. The issues and opportunities for photographers are also discussed in “F.” magazine. The new journal has been conceptualized as a reservation of sorts for young and fresh photography to test the ground and get to feet and then go on to conquer the world.
For everyone who perceives him or herself in photography, the sounds of the world despite all rules start with an “f”. F. is for ‘fotografee’. The period does not denote the customary finitude or a limit or a stop or a pause, the publishers rather wish to say that photography has its own point. Point of view.
