The onomatology was the first discipline to involve the study of proper nouns, and photography, or more precisely, famous persons in art, photography, journalism, becoming temporary curators introduce the works of upcoming, and, in our opinion, very promising authors in the project the PROPER NOUN.
The first exhibit-presentation of this project held in the minor exhibit hall of V. V. Mayakovsky library center was opened in November of 2006. Four ‘curator plus young photographer’ pairs have worked out as follows: Alexander Kitaev – Ekaterina Sytnik; Igor Lebedev – Ekaterina Zimina; Elena Skibitskaya – Tatiana Korol; Nadya Sherye – Kirill Arsenyev.
This year, the FotoDepartment information center/bureau and its chief curator, Alexander Kitaev will open the cycle of exhibits, the non-stop flow of new names, where each young author, introduced by a prominent curator, will have a small personal exhibit, for someone, perhaps the very first.
The Proper Noun project is not limited to exhibits. It aims first of all at discovering the new generation of photographers in Russia, searching for promising authors, assisting them in self-determination and presenting their works and vision, ideas, art to the audience attentively following the advance of photography in our country and abroad.
To find the new names, the FotoDepartment curators in cooperation with famous St. Petersburg photographers will hold portfolio reviews of young authors at each of the openings of Proper Noun exhibits. Anyone, regardless of age and photography genre can show the works and receive the feedback and the opportunity to cooperate with FotoDepartment. Every opening will have time slots available for five applicants. Sign up in advance at www.fotodepartament.ru.
Series of works by young authors mentioned by curators will be presented on FotoDepartment website.
