Photo In Motion“Multimedia story – photo film”

During a week training course we will closely study process of working up and creation of photo film – modern multimedia format that becomes very popular and widespread among professional photographers and photo agencies.
Students will get familiar with history of creation and development of photo films. In theory and in practice they will study photo story (that is the basis of photo film), multimedia slideshow and photo film. They will study software for photo film production and learn various peculiarities of working with effects, sound and text, will see the best examples of slideshow and photo films. This course is aimed to help students to find appropriate form to realize their authors photo films, based on materials taken during the seminar. The result of the workshop will be public presentation of DVD with students’ photo films.
The workshop is rated at entrants who possess high skills in photography and know Photoshop. Photo film running time – 10 minutes maximum.
Technical requirements: notebook, Adobe Premiere Pro/ Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop. Availability of digital camera, microphone or voice recorder for sound recording is very welcome.
Workshop program:
Day 1
- Photo story as basis of slideshow and photo film.
- Brief history of photo film development (review of the fragments).
- Slideshow/ photo film/ short films – similarity and differences.
- Overview of software needed for creating slideshow (Slideshow Pro etc.)
- Shooting. Working on material for photo film.
Day 2
- Review of slideshows completed in different programs (at author’s choice)
- Definition of photo film specifics as means of author’s self-expression (films review).
- Software overview: Adobe Premiere Pro (PC) / Final Cut Pro (Mac). Creating project, general preferences.
- Shooting. Working on material for photo film.
Day 3
- Working with image in Adobe Premiere Pro (PC) / Final Cut Pro (Mac). Rendering photo in working format; editing principles: working with image on timeline, creating transitions, using effects, moving across image.
- Different approaches to story-telling in photo film (films review).
- Shooting. Working on material for photo film.
Day 4
- Role and usage of sound track in photo films (films review).
- Sound editing in Adobe Premiere Pro (PC) / Final Cut Pro (Mac). Different methods of sound recording, digitizing and processing; sound editing – working with sound tracks on timeline.
- Shooting. Working on material for photo film.
Day 5
- Working up photo film (film editing, sound recording).
- Trends in photo film development (films review).
Day 6
- Principles of work with text in photo film: captions, subtitles (films review).
- Working up photo film (film editing, sound recording).
- Prevue.
Day 7
- Finishing photo film: editing, mixing, captions.
- Saving photo film in different formats (technical peculiarities), disk writing, creating web-version of photo film.
Day 8
- Presentation of photo films made by students.
