“FotoDepartament” started its work in the field of photogrpahy in the year 2006, when the Informational center was set in Saint-Petersburg, on Nevskiy prospect, 20.
“FotoDepartament” was initiated by photographer and curator Olga Korsunova, art-manager and photo critic Nadezhda Sheremetova and art historian Elena Zyrianova, who altogether took and active part in the activity of such organizations as Foundation “Saint-Petersburg photoworkshops” and The State Center of Photography “ROSPHOTO”.
“FotoDepartament” – is the new type of organization in Russia, that combines both commercial and non-commercial attitudes towards photography. Nowadays all the spheres of photography in our country need to be developed – education, magazines and books, the profession of a curator, art-market. That is why “FotoDepartament” combines the activities of a whole number of different organizations, remaining independent in its aims, decisions and choice.
There are a few spheres of work in “FotoDepartament”:
- The Foundation of informational and cultural projects “FotoDepartament”. It was founded in 2008 and today deals with exhibitions, educational, informational and other multicultural projects that aim to develop and support young Russian photography. The foundation is based in St.-Petersburg, but spreads its activity all around the country. The projects of the foundation are at once seeking to three directions: support and development of art and documentary photography and the development of visual culture in Russia, presenting Russian photography abroad and shows and exhibitions of world photography in Russia.
- Informational center “FotoDepartament” – is a cooperate project with the City Public Library of V.V. Mayakovski. The center offers an open access to photography books and magazines, a digital database on Russian and foreign photographers, an overview of international tendencies, as well as information on educational, exhibition events, galleries, festivals, organizations and all the other information connected with photography.
- Gallery/Bureau “FotoDepartament” – center that combines the functions of a gallery, bookstore and the communicational center for everyone, who is interested in photography.
Gallery/Bureau deals with the following projects:
- Limited edition photography for sale. Single authors’ prints by Russian and foreign photographers, limited edition print for available prices, printed and designed according to the latest tendencies.
- Art-photography archive – CD with the works of both modern photographers and old photography.
Useful for designers and architects who use photography to decorate private and public interiors.
- Interior and design ideas with photography - collection of pillows, bags, textile etc.
- Educational projects in the sphere of photography. Intensive and long-term author workshops with professional teachers – practicing Russian and foreign photographers, technical and art specialists from different spheres of digital and analog photography, fashion, advertisement, documentary etc. photographers, international summer photo-workshops.
- Personal and curated exhibitions, workshops, conferences, open meetings and other events in the sphere of photography art.
- Media development – multimedia and photo-films, shows.
- Other projects that help professional photographers to develop their work.
